Risk Companion vs Riskonnect

Riskonnect is a full enterprise RMIS covering claims, audit, third-party and policy risk, and it also ships bowtie, Monte Carlo and AI agents. The difference is the buying process and the breadth, not a feature gap.

The honest answer

These are different categories of product, and the question is not which has more features. Riskonnect has more features.

Riskonnect is an enterprise risk management information system: insurance claims administration, internal audit, third-party risk and policy management in one platform. Its own pages also document bowtie cause-and-effect analysis, embedded Monte Carlo, and an AI agent library that proposes causes, consequences and controls. Treat the analysis capabilities as a tie.

What separates us is how you buy it and how long before anyone uses it. Risk Companion is adopted by a team on its own, with a self-serve trial and no procurement.

If your mandate covers insurable risk and claims alongside operational risk, you need Riskonnect. If you need your team off spreadsheets this month, you do not.

Choose Riskonnect if

  • Insurance claims, internal audit, third-party risk or policy management belong in one platform.
  • A large enterprise is consolidating risk, with a project team and a budget line behind it.
  • Sector-specific modules matter to you, healthcare patient safety for example.
  • One vendor for the whole risk and insurance mandate beats a focused tool that does less.
  • Work happens in 35 languages out of the box, with more than 90 available.

Choose Risk Companion if

  • Being in the tool this week matters more than breadth, and you would rather skip the sales conversation.
  • Replacing spreadsheets is the job, and it should take days instead of a rollout.
  • Risks get found in workshops, which is the part spreadsheets handle worst.
  • Nobody on the team should need to be a data scientist to get value on day one.

Where Riskonnect is stronger

Riskonnect is a genuinely broader product and it is not close. Its published module list covers insurance claims administration including workers compensation, internal audit across operational, compliance, IT and financial audits, third-party risk with certificate management, policy and regulatory change management, and healthcare modules for patient safety and provider quality. It also matches us on the analysis features we would once have claimed as differentiators: bowtie cause-and-effect analysis, embedded Monte Carlo, and AI agents that propose causes, consequences and controls. Risk Companion has none of the enterprise breadth and is not trying to build it.

“Not found in public documentation” means we could not confirm the capability from the vendor’s own published material on the date checked. It does not mean the capability is absent. If something here is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

How each is sold

Riskonnect publishes no price. SelectHub records that it offers no free trial, and notes the initial setup can be complex and may make it less suitable for smaller organisations with limited budgets. Its reviewers on SoftwareAdvice are large organisations, most with more than a thousand employees. Risk Companion starts at €185 per user per month and you start it yourself, with a 30-day free trial and no credit card required.

Risk Companion vs Riskonnect: common questions

Is Risk Companion a good Riskonnect alternative?
Only if your mandate is narrower than Riskonnect covers. Risk Companion suits a team that wants a register, workshops and analysis running this week without procurement. It is not an alternative at all if you need insurance claims administration, internal audit, third-party risk or policy management, because we do none of those. The table below shows both sides row by row.
Does Riskonnect do Monte Carlo simulation or bowtie diagrams?
Yes to both. Their analytics page lists "Bowtie Cause-and-Effect Analysis" as a product highlight and describes embedded Monte Carlo analysis of likelihood and cost impact. Their AI agent library documents a Risk Builder Agent that proposes causes, consequences and controls. None of those three is a reason to choose us over them.
Is Riskonnect too big for a team of five?
SelectHub notes it may be less suitable for smaller organisations with limited budgets, and that initial setup can be complex. There is no free trial. So for a small team wanting to start this week, the mismatch is the buying and rollout process, not the software quality. Risk Companion is built for the opposite case.
What does Risk Companion genuinely not do?
Insurance claims administration, internal audit management, third-party and vendor risk, and policy and regulatory change management. Riskonnect covers all four and we cover none of them. We also do not offer enterprise single sign-on against your own identity provider, and Risk Companion does not hold ISO 27001 certification, though it operates ISO 27001 aligned processes and hosts all data in the EU on certified infrastructure.
We already run Riskonnect. Why would we look at Risk Companion?
Usually for project and workshop-level risk work that the enterprise platform makes heavy going, where you want a register the engineers will keep current without specialist support and the enterprise system stays the system of record. If Riskonnect is working for that layer too, you do not need us.
